Six habits that help
1. Learn the basics before strategies
In blackjack, know the card values and dealer rules before you study a strategy chart. Every modified variant has its own chart.
2. Practise free
RNG blackjack, baccarat and casino poker usually have demo modes. Play a hundred hands before your first real one.
3. Keep a learning budget
Set aside a small amount just for a new game. For poker tournaments or cash games, a bankroll of at least 20 buy-ins absorbs normal swings.
4. Watch a live table first
Spend a few rounds watching how fast the dealer moves and when betting closes.
5. Keep records
Note stakes, results and decisions you were unsure of. Patterns show where you lose money.
6. Start with flat bets
In baccarat, flat bets on the banker (1.06% edge) teach the game without the swings of side bets.
Which card games give the best odds
| Game | Bet or condition | House edge |
|---|---|---|
| Blackjack | 3:2 payout, basic strategy | about 0.5% |
| Baccarat | Banker | 1.06% |
| Baccarat | Player | 1.24% |
| Three Card Poker | Ante and play | about 3.4% |
| Casino Hold'em | Ante, correct calls | about 2.2% |
Mistakes to avoid
- Chasing losses with bigger bets.
- Playing on after a few drinks or when upset.
- Using classic strategy on modified games.
- Treating patterns on the baccarat scoreboard as predictions; each hand is independent.
